Department of Michigan Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War   Edward A. Vickery Department Commander 1929-1930

Edward A. Vickery was born in 1893. He was a member of John P. Riley Camp No. 12 of Kalamazoo, and was elected Department Commander in 1929 at Bay City. During World War I, Brother Vickery enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 29, 1918. He was sent to Washington, D.C., and was assigned to the 478th Engineer Depot Brigade. He was promoted to Private 1st Class December 1, 1918, and discharged from the Army on December 3, 1918. After the war, Edward served as the Kalamazoo City Clerk for a few years, then went on to work for Checker Motors and finally retired from the Joseph Loughead Company in 1965. Edward belonged to the Richard Westnedge Post No. 36, American Legion; the 40 & 8, serving a term as the Chef de Guerre; and the Corinthian Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. Bro. Vickery died in 1968, and is buried next to his wife Meta in Riverside Cemetery in Kalamazoo. Edward's father Josiah was also a member of the Order.
