The History of Lockwood Camp No. 139
Lockwood Camp No. 139 was the original name of the Alpena GAR Post.
The post was founded on May 23, 1883 with about 30 charter members.
Alpena's first City Treasurer Albert L. Powers (9th Michigan Infantry,
Co. I) was their Commander. The post kept that name until the latter
half of 1894 when they became Horace S. Roberts Post No.139. In
its June 1893 report the post reached its highest membership of
120 members. By 1929 there were only 3 remaining members who no
longer were able to meet.
